US plate prices drift upward

Plate prices in the US have moved up to $1,490-1,500/short ton from $1,480-1,500/st last week, Kallanish learns.
"I'm hearing both sheet and plate prices may head the other way by May. Scrap is moving down. When Nucor starts rolling full steam by May, things may change. Prices may decrease. Nucor is up and running on heavy plates in Brandenburg [Kentucky], but not yet with lighter plates through 2-inch," a distribution source explains.
