US Steel closes Big River Steel buy
US Steel has officially closed on its planned acquisition of minimill producer Big River Steel, Kallanish reports.
The company paid $774 million for the remaining 50.1% stake in the Arkansas producer. In October, the company acquired 49.9% of the company for $700m.
Now that Big River has commissioned its Phase II expansion, the mill’s total capacity is 3.3 million short tons/year.
