Vale tests biofuel in iron ore shipping
Brazil's Vale says it has started trials using biofuel in bulk vessels. The project is part of the miner's program for testing and developing solutions in the use of alternative fuels for shipping, in addition to piloting new energy efficiency technologies, Kallanish notes.
The first trip carrying a full cargo of iron ore is taking place from Brazil's Guaiba Island terminal to Asia. Vale's partner is the German bulk carrier company Oldendorff.
