Yunnan Desheng abandons EAFs in new plan
The Yunnan Provincial Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said on 12 November Yunnan Desheng Iron & Steel no longer plans to build an EAF but is building a converter instead. Several Chinese steelmakers have dropped EAF projects as raw materials remain too expensive, Kallanish notes.
Desheng changed its plan to build one 120-tonne converter instead of one 70-t EAF for alloys and one 100-t EAF for crude steel.
