South East Asia Steel Markets Report - Week 30 (July 28, 2021)

Read the Kallanish South East Asia Report - Week 31, published 28th July 2021. This is a weekly subscription report analysing production, flats, longs, semis, and raw materials for the region. Additionally, the production section includes brand new data series monitoring hot metal production activity in the region at the blast furnace level.

  • Production: Overall blast furnace activity in Southeast Asia ticked a little higher last week, led by increases in Vietnam.
  • Flats: Vietnam’s hot rolled coil import market continues to be dragged down by Covid-19 curbs and uncertainty.
  • Longs: ASEAN import demand for wire rod is weak because of tightened curbs imposed in many regional countries amid a surge in Covid-19 infections.
  • Semis: Chinese buying continues to propel regional billet prices higher in ASEAN.
  • Raw Materials: Taiwanese scrap prices have begun to decline this week, and falling demand has caused steel mills to reduce their purchases.
