South East Asia Steel Markets Report - Week 35 (Sept. 1, 2021)

Read the Kallanish South East Asia Report - Week 35, published 1st September 2021. This is a weekly subscription report analysing production, flats, longs, semis, and raw materials for the region. Additionally, the production section includes brand new data series monitoring hot metal production activity in the region at the blast furnace level.

  • Production: Southeast Asian blast furnace output was much steadier last week.
  • Flats: The Vietnamese hot rolled coil  import market continues to languish amid a strict lockdown in southern Vietnam.
  • Longs: Market sentiment for wire rod and rebar imports has worsened in ASEAN, mainly on surging Covid-19 infections in the region.
  • Semis: ASEAN mills are actively making export offers within the region. However, apart from a large booking of Vietnamese billet to the Philippines, buyers in Thailand and Indonesia are staying on the sidelines.
  • Raw Materials: Taiwan's scrap prices rebounded as expected this week. An increase in overseas offer values prompted a lift in scrap import prices.
