Kallanish South East Asia Steel Markets Report - Week 19 (May 9, 2022)

Read the Kallanish South East Asia Report - Week 19, published 9th May 2022. This is a weekly subscription report analysing production, flats, longs, semis, and raw materials for the region. 

  • Flats: The Vietnamese hot rolled coil import market has remained inactive since the Labour Day holiday.
  • Longs: East Asian long product import markets are quiet amid bearish buyer sentiment. Participants including traders are also just returning from the Labour Day and Eid holidays.
  • Semis: The Southeast Asian billet import market continues to weaken. Suppliers are eager to close deals, whereas buyers are preferring to delay their purchases. Offer prices moved down in the past week.
  • Raw Materials: The Vietnamese scrap import market continues to weaken, with buyers standing on the sidelines. Offers for Hong Kong HMS 1&2 50:50 are currently at a negotiable $550/t cfr southern Vietnam, down $10 on-week. Bulk US HMS 1/2 80:20 scrap is heard offered at around $545/t cfr, compared to $600/t cfr the previous week.
