Kallanish South East Asia Steel Markets Report - Week 27 (July 4, 2022)

Read the Kallanish South East Asia Report - Week 27, published 4th June 2022. This is a weekly subscription report analysing production, flats, longs, semis, and raw materials for the region.

  • Flats: The Vietnamese hot rolled coil import market continued to struggle last week. Traders continued to spread bearishness by inviting bids for material at low levels.
  • Longs: The rebar import markets in Singapore and Hong Kong are weak and suppliers have reduced prices to close deals. Malaysian-origin actual-weight rebar is heard by trading and importing sources to have been booked recently at $665/t cfr Hong Kong.
  • Semis: The ASEAN billet import market appears to have stabilised at the end of last week. In fact, suppliers are trying to drive up prices in recent days amid the rebound in scrap.
  • Raw Materials: Sluggish buying sentiment has seen Taiwanese scrap prices fall sharply, amid a plummeting international scrap market. Kallanish assessed HMS 1&2 80:20 container scrap at $350/t cfr Taiwan, down $50/t on-week.
