Maintenance, soft demand cut NLMK first-quarter output, sales
Russian vertically-integrated steelmaker NLMK reduced consolidated output of crude steel by -4% on-quarter in the first quarter to 4.2 million tonnes, which was also -3% down on-year.
The reduction is on the back of major blast furnace repairs at the principal Russian Lipetsk site, and a strike at Belgium-based Clabeq, the company says in a note sent to Kallanish. The company's mills were producing at 96% capacity utilisation in Q1, -2 percentage points down…
