North American rig count spikes
The latest report from Baker Hughes shows the North American rotary rig count bouncing back last week, with Canada re-adding a large number of rigs after the end-of-year holidays. While the US added just two net rigs during the week ended 7 January, Canada’s count jumped by 51.
The US added one net oil rig and one net gas rig during the week, bringing its weekly total to 588 rigs. This is 228 more rigs than were operating one year ago.
