US Steel introduces battery-powered locomotives at Mon Valley
US Steel is deploying newly converted diesel fuel-to-battery locomotives built by Innovative Rail Technologies (IRT) at Mon Valley Works, Kallanish learns.
IRT develops customized ion-propulsion solutions for the rail industry. US Steel invested over $2.3 million in the locomotive project. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) funded the remaining costs.
