Xinjiang steel production stoppages stimulate price rebound
Several major local steel mills in north-western China’s Xinjiang province have halted production because of either suspended public private partnership project (PPP) investment and/or equipment maintenance. Lower-than expected local steel demand and relatively high social steel inventories have caused a wide range of production stoppages. The estimated effect on construction steel supply could be around 175,000 tonnes, Kallanish notes.
