AK moves up stainless base prices
US carbon and specialty producer AK Steel has joined the push for higher stainless steel base prices, according to a customer letter.
Effective with shipments beginning 1 May, AK will raise base prices on all commodity, specialty and pipe and tube-quality sheet and strip products by reducing the functional base price discount by two percentage points.
All other stainless products will received a flat base price increase of $40/short ton, Kallanish notes.
