AK receives Department of Energy grant
The US Department of Energy has granted AK Steel $1.8 million to research more energy efficient grades of electrical steel, Kallanish learns from a department report.
“AK Steel will explore different chemical compositions added in to the existing composition of standard electrical steels to increase the resistivity of electrical steels, resulting in a potential savings of 11.8 gigawatt hours per year,” the department says in its rationale.
