AK Steel nets profit on niche auto market
Carbon and specialty steelmaker AK Steel returned to the black in the second quarter as it continues to pivot away from commodity products, Kallanish learns.
AK posted a net profit of $17.3 million on sales of $1.49 billion, up from a loss of $64m on sales of $1.69 billion. AK attributes the drop in sales to “…lower automotive contract pricing compared to a year ago as well as a decrease in shipments.”
