AK to halt Ashland blast furnace temporarily
US producer AK Steel plans to idle temporarily its Ashland, Kentucky, blast furnace and steelmaking operations due to harsh market conditions, Kallanish learns from a company statement.
The 2 million short tons/year furnace will be taken down in mid-December and the outage “… could last more than six months,” AK states. The outage will not affect Ashland’s automotive hot-dip galvanizing line.
