Aperam to extract nickel from plants
French stainless steel producer Aperam is partnering with Econick, part of the University of Lorraine, for the extraction of nickel from plants, Kallanish notes.
The two firms have created a joint venture called Botanickel with the objective to produce bio-sourced nickel for the stainless steel industry, reducing Aperam’s exposure to nickel price volatility and cutting its greenhouse gas emissions.
