China steel futures firm slightly as inventories fall
Chinese steel futures prices gained from Friday but fared less well than some market participants had hoped. Steel inventories meanwhile have begun to decline as uncertainty over prices increase, Kallanish notes.
The January rebar contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange closed up CNY 18/tonne at CNY 2,316/t ($347/t) on Monday, while the same contract for hot rolled coil closed up CNY 29/t at CNY 2,619/t.
