Chinese steel flat but oversupply continues
Chinese steel futures prices fluctuated in a range on Thursday as trading began to slip ahead of the week-long holiday starting Saturday. Major mills reported an increase in steel production in mid-September, alongside increasing inventories, Kallanish notes.
The January rebar contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange closed up CNY 1/tonne at CNY 2,273/t ($341/t), while the same contract for hot rolled coil closed down CNY 8/t at CNY 2,565/t.
