Construction downturn hammers Polish consumption, production also plummets
Polish steel consumption sunk to a multi-year low in 2023 of 11.8 million tonnes, down 11% on-year, with long products leading the decline amid the construction industry crisis, Polish Union of Steel Distributors (PUDS) president Iwona Dybal said at a meeting in Warsaw on Tuesday.
Only four months last year registered consumption exceeding 1mt, compared to seven months in 2022 and all 12 in 2021. Rebar apparent use slumped 24% on-year and wire rod by 34%.
