East Asia grapples with billet price surge
Fast-rising prices for billet are causing confusion in East Asia, with some suppliers withdrawing from the market since Monday to decide on their next steps, local sources tell Kallanish.
Billet import offers have exceeded $800/tonne cfr in the Philippines. Japanese electric arc furnace billet is tagged at $810/t cfr Manila. A prompt shipment cargo of 5,000 tonnes of induction furnace billet from Vietnam is currently offered at $830/t cfr Manila.
