Indian iron ore shortage, trade barriers loom: JSPL
There is likely to be an Indian domestic iron ore shortage post-2020 as major non-captive mining leases expire next March, while the government will implement trade barriers to prevent “…predatory” imports. So says Indian steelmaker Jindal Steel & Power (JSPL).
Out of 169 million tonnes/year of non-captive iron ore mine capacity in Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, 87m t/y is going to lapse in March 2020, JSPL says.
