Molten steel spill causes fire at AK
US steel producer AK Steel suffered a fire at its Middletown, Ohio, basic oxygen furnace due to a molten steel spill on Saturday morning, Kallanish learns from local media reports.
The spill was due to a broken ladle. No AK Steel employee injuries were reported.
AK estimates that repairs will take 8-10 days, during which the melt shop will be offline.
