Nippon to restart blast furnace at Muroran steelworks
Nippon Steel will restart production at its No.2 blast furnace at the Muroran steelworks in Hokkaido. The unit has 2.3 million tonnes/year of hot metal capacity, Kallanish notes.
Due to drastically reduced demand caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Nippon advanced its maintenance plans and idled the BF on 8 July 2020. Work on the retrofit started on 22 August and it was expected to be completed within around 90 days.
