OMK to commission new DRI-EAF mill in 2024
Russian pipemaker United Metallurgical Company (OMK) has begun construction of a direct reduced iron-based steelmaking plant at its flagship Vyksa works, the company tells Kallanish.
The new facility will allow OMK to increase steel supply by 80% amid tougher competition in the pipe market and a reduction in the margins of this business. It may also result in a reduction in the cost of pipemaking by -10%.
