China demand sees Indian iron ore exports surge
Indian iron ore – excluding pellet – exports soared 144% on-year to 3.26 million tonnes in May against 1.34mt exported a year ago, according to customs data monitored by Kallanish.
The rise in exports is mainly attributed to an increase in bookings from China. The latter accounted for 3.22mt of iron ore exports in May, up by 156% on-year. Nepal was the second-largest destination for Indian iron ore, importing 21,988t during the period.
