Port Talbot transformation seen improving Tata cost structure
The Port Talbot steelworks transformation to electric arc furnaces will improve Tata Steel’s overall cost structure, says S&P Global Ratings.
Cost savings will amount to £500 million ($613m), based on per tonne cost savings of £150-170 once the proposed 3 million tonnes/year EAFs become operational. Abundant availability of steel scrap in the UK will meanwhile improve raw material security, the rating agency says.
